How can I use 17TRACK to provide consumers with an Estimated Delivery Dates for their packages?

After placing an order, customers often want to know, "When will my package arrive?" After you set up the post-purchase estimated delivery date (EDD) in 17TRACK, you can display the package's estimated delivery date on your branded tracking page and in email notifications. This helps customers better plan for delivery and reduces repeated inquiries.

Where does the estimated delivery date come from?

17TRACK supports the following estimated delivery date sources:

Source

Description

Carrier official EDD

Provided by the carrier. Usually, only some carriers return an official estimated delivery date.

Custom EDD

Calculated based on the time rules you configure. It can be used as a supplemental source.

You can enable or disable these sources and drag them to adjust the priority. The system will check the sources from top to bottom and use the first available estimated delivery date.
If no EDD source is enabled, the system will not retrieve an estimated delivery date.

Setup steps

1. Go to the EDD Settings page

In the 17TRACK app, go to:
Settings > EDD Settings

2. Set the EDD source priority

In the "EDD source priority" section, you can enable, disable, or drag to sort the following sources:

  • Carrier official EDD
  • Custom EDD

The system will check the sources from top to bottom and use the first available estimated delivery date.
For example, if you place Carrier official EDD above Custom EDD: when the current shipment has a Carrier official EDD, it will be displayed first. If it is not available, the system will continue to use Custom EDD.

3. Save EDD settings

After adjusting EDD sources or priority, an unsaved changes prompt will appear at the top of the page. Click Save to open the confirmation window.
The confirmation window will show:

4. Set up Custom EDD (optional)

If you enable Custom EDD, you can continue to configure the following rules. When Carrier official EDD is temporarily unavailable, Custom EDD can be used as a supplemental source.

  1. Select a calculation method

Custom EDD provides 2 calculation methods. Different calculation methods use different formulas for the estimated delivery date.

  • Based on order creation date

Estimated delivery date = Order created date + Order cutoff and processing time + Transit time

  • Based on order fulfillment date

Estimated delivery date = Order fulfilled date + Transit time

  1. Set order cutoff and processing times

If you select "Based on order creation date":

  • Order cutoff time: The time by which you stop processing orders for the day.

Example: Suppose you set 6:00 PM as the order cutoff time.
If a customer places an order before 6:00 PM, for example at 3:00 PM, you can process the order on the same day.
If a customer places an order after 6:00 PM, for example at 10:00 PM, you will process the order the next day.
You can select the reference time zone based on your team or warehouse location. The final estimated delivery date will be displayed to your customers after calculation.

  • Order processing time: The number of business days required to process an order.

Example: If you set the order processing time to 1 day.
If the customer places an order before the order cutoff time on November n, 2023, the package fulfillment date = (2023/11/n) + 1, which is 2023/11/(n+1).
If the customer places an order after the order cutoff time on November n, 2023, the package fulfillment date = (2023/11/n+1) + 1, which is 2023/11/(n+2).

  • Business days: The days when your warehouse can fulfill orders.

Example: If you set business days from Monday to Friday, orders placed on weekends will only start processing next Monday.

② If you select "Based on order fulfillment date", you do not need to edit order processing time.

  1. Set Transit Times

The system will calculate the final required transit time based on the shipment's delivery region and shipping method.
Click Add item

Select the carrier's transit time range
17TRACK supports setting different transit times for the same carrier in different regions. For example, you can set 5 - 7 days for the United States and 6 - 10 days for Germany under the same carrier.

FAQ

  1. Why do some shipments not have an estimated delivery date?

Possible reasons include:

  • No EDD source is currently enabled
  • The enabled sources temporarily do not have an available estimated delivery date
  • Custom EDD does not match the corresponding carrier or destination country/region
  • Shipment information is insufficient, so the estimated delivery date cannot be retrieved yet

You can go to Settings > EDD Settings to check EDD sources and Custom EDD rules.

  1. If multiple sources have an estimated delivery date, which one will be displayed?

The system will follow the order you set in "EDD source priority" and use the first available estimated delivery date from top to bottom.

  1. Will configured rules be deleted after Custom EDD is disabled?

No. After Custom EDD is disabled, Custom EDD settings may be temporarily unavailable for editing or excluded from EDD retrieval, but configured rules will be retained.

  1. Which shipments are affected after saving the settings?

After saving, shipments with later logistics information updates will update the estimated delivery date based on the new settings. If a shipment has no later logistics information updates, its estimated delivery date may not change immediately.

  1. Why is Carrier official EDD sometimes unavailable?

Carrier official EDD requires the carrier to return an estimated delivery date in the logistics information. Currently, only some carriers support this. If Carrier official EDD is temporarily unavailable, you can enable Custom EDD as a supplemental source.
