How to Distinguish and Configure 17TRACK Emails vs. Shopify Emails

This article helps you clearly distinguish between 17TRACK and Shopify email notifications, understand how they are sent, and configure them based on your business needs to prevent customers from receiving duplicate emails.

1.  Who Sends the Emails?

All email records displayed in the Shopify order timeline are generated and sent by the Shopify system.

17TRACK email sending history is stored in a separate system. You can view it by going to 17TRACK > Notifications > History.

You can visually distinguish the source of emails by comparing sent messages based on design style, sender information, and key content.

  • Shopify emails:

  • 17TRACK emails:

2.  Why is the Sender Displayed as "17TRACK" in the Timeline?

This occurs when you enable the "Shopify Email Notifications" feature in 17TRACK.

When a package status updates, 17TRACK syncs this status data to Shopify. This data is recognized by the Shopify system as coming from 17TRACK and triggers Shopify to send its built-in email notifications. Consequently, Shopify creates a record in the order timeline and marks the sender of this email as "17TRACK".

  • Enable this feature: Sender displays as "17TRACK" in the timeline.

  • Disable this feature: Sender reverts to displaying as "Shopify" in the timeline.

Note: This setting only affects the displayed sender name. All emails are actually sent by the Shopify system.

3.  Detailed Functions: The Role of Two Key Settings

Within 17TRACK > Settings > Shopify Status, two core options control different data flows. Understanding their distinction is crucial:

  1. Push Order Shipping Status

This option controls whether the latest shipping statuses queried by 17TRACK are synced back to the orders in your Shopify admin.

  • When enabled: The "Delivery status" field of Shopify orders updates in real-time. This allows other Shopify apps that rely on shipping status to trigger corresponding functions based on accurate logistics information.
  • When disabled: Shipping statuses will not be synced to Shopify.

  1. Shopify Email Notifications

This option serves two main functions:

1)Controls Sender Display in Timeline

When enabled, 17TRACK pushes shipping status data to Shopify, which causes all related email notifications in the Shopify order timeline to display "17TRACK" as the sender.

To distinguish between emails sent by Shopify and 17TRACK: Please disable this option, and the timeline sender will revert to displaying "Shopify".

2) Prevents Duplicate Notifications

This function effectively avoids duplicate email delivery. When enabled, even if "Out for delivery" and "Delivered" status notifications are activated in Shopify settings, 17TRACK will intercept Shopify's native emails for these two statuses, ensuring customers do not receive duplicate notifications.

How to avoid confusion and prevent duplicate notifications:

If you want the timeline to show "Shopify" as the sender while still avoiding duplicate notifications, please choose one of the following options:

  • Option A: Disable Shopify notifications

Go to Shopify > Settings > Notifications > Customer notifications

Under the "Shipping updated" section, disable "Out for delivery" and "Delivered" notifications

  • Option B: Disable 17TRACK notifications

Go to 17TRACK > Notification Management > Customer Notifications

Disable "Out for delivery" and "Delivered" notifications

Recommendation: Please select the option that best suits your usage habits to maintain clear timeline display while ensuring customers do not receive duplicate shipping notifications.
